Five Star Bodies and Ed Carley Motorsports Helps Excite Super Stock Division in 2007
By RICH VLECK
Among all of the buzz around the Black Rock Speedway, the flourishing super stock division has headlining news to throw into the mix. Thanks to Five Star Bodies and Ed Carley Motorsports, this division is not only in the news, but will be competing for even more in 2007.
Full-time competitors in the Freedom Village USA Super Stocks division this year will have a tough time staying in the top-10 in points with the increased competition level, but for those that do, they will be eligible for one of three prizes.
The grand prize will be a brand new “half-car”, with an estimated value over $1,500. The other two items will be an MD3 Complete Combo set, including a plastic nose, fender, and nose graphics kit, each a $250 value.
The top-10 in points, provided they compete in 75% of the 2007 point races, will be entered in a drawing at the 2007 Awards Banquet to take home one of the three products.
“Ed Carley is tremendously knowledgeable when it comes to this class of car, for him to step up and offer support to the speedway is fantastic,” said BRS General Manager Alex Hoag. “We are all aware of the costs of putting a top notch car on the race track, hopefully this will help reduce those costs for one of our competitors. “
“It is also great having a national company like Five Star Bodies recognize the talent level at BRS and want to have their premium product associated with it,” added Hoag.
Jeremy Wonderling won the Super Stock championship last year, even after missing the first race of the season. This year, he will make the opener on Friday, April 13. The question is whether last year was a fluke or if the Scio, NY competitor is really that good at the 4/10-mile oval.
Wonderling will have a number of competitors looking to dethrone him this year, including his brother, who was a part-time competitor at BRS in 2006. Quinn Sutherland is also returning with guns blazing to attempt to capture another championship at his hometown speedway. Other top competitors that expect on figuring into this mix include Donnie Smith in his sharp-looking Ed Carley built No. 57J, Nate Daggett, Dave DuBois, and former track champions Steve Perry and Jon Wallenbeck.
It should be noted that the weekly winner’s share has also improved this season, increasing to $500. In addition to that, the inaugural Bud Foster Memorial will be run on June 15, a $1,000-to-win feature. Once again this fall, the Super Stock Nationals will be held on October 20, paying $2,000 to the winner.
