Chuck Hebing Wins In First ASCS National Start, Donnie Smith, Terry Povoski,

DUNDEE, NY - Chuck Hebing t-shirts arrived to Black Rock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday Night, at 11:00 p.m. they were in high demand after a thrilling race.

Chuck Hebing struck for his first career O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National feature win with a triumph in Friday night's 20-lap Ninth Annual Bully Hill Sprint Nationals preliminary feature at Black Rock Speedway.

Hebing battled past Jason Johnson for the lead on the seventh round and led the rest of the way, with Johnson, Gary Wright and Wayne Johnson securing the final four lock-in positions to Saturday night's Bully Hill finale. Darren Stewart rounded out the top five.

For Hebing, this weekend meant a lot as he was looking to help solidify his position as one of the North America’s finest 360-sprint drivers.

"This is just huge for us," said Hebing after getting off the wing of his No. 45 in Victory Lane. "We’re locked in for Saturday’s show which is good but to win an event like this is just big."

After winning heat race 5, Hebing finished third in the Budweiser Pole Dash, behind Jason Johnson and George Suprick, but that did not hinder him in the feature.

After quickly moving to second, the "Cobra" found some bite on the topside to get around The Shop Motorsports No. 41 to get out in front.

Hebing led by about 5 car lengths for much of the event until the closing laps when lapped traffic forced him to slice into different groves, allowing Johnson, along with hard-charging Gary Wright to pull within a car length. That was as close as they came though.

In those closing laps, Hebing dropped a cylinder on his engine, forcing him to limp it home for his 19th career ASCS win, his 22nd career sprint win and his 4th win at Black Rock.

Racing was superb all throughout the field as the new contours to the Yates County Powerplant. Racing action was slowed only three times in the feature, twice for cars stopped in turn 3 and once for a Coleman Gulick flip on lap 6. Gulick’s No. 14 turned over and was hit by Alain Bergeron, taking both out of competition. Upon refiring the remaining cars, Scott Bonnell, who was 4th at the time, could not get his No. 3b back underway and also retired from the event.

Before Hebing picked up the win in the sprints, there was great racing in the weekly divisions as well, with a number of winners being repeats.

Donnie Smith used last week’s breakthrough win in the Freedom Village USA Super Stocks to hold off Jeremy Wonderling in a fierce battle to capture his second-straight feature victory. "The Jungle Duck" stayed consistent on the topside of the speedway, while the defending champion of the division kept prodding at him on the bottom.

Past the halfway point however, Wonderling spun his No. 3J, sending him to the tail of the field and allowing the No. 57J to hang on for the win. Rich Karlnoski was again stout for a runner-up finish, with Quinn Sutherland making it an All-Dundee podium. Bob Buono and Nate Daggett completed the top-five.

Frank Chapman regained his form of early 2006 in the Street Stock division as he went to Victory Lane in his newly lettered No. 89. The Chemung, NY driver had to hold off the advances of Darl Ellis for much of the 20-lap feature, including some slight contact on multiple occasions. Following those two across the line were Bubba Burnell, Laverne Knickerbocker III and Chris Force.

Terry Povoski reassumed his dominance Friday in the Regional Truck Pro Truck Division, once again having to hold off Chris Leroux for the win. Povoski took the lead on lap 3 and checked out to cruise to his third win in four tries this season. Ralph Champion, Jared Hill and Jason White were the top-five.

Scott Yaw still has his car for sale, and still has the key to winning the Signs Plus of Kanona 4-cylinder features. For the third time this year, the point leader took top honors, running away from Jack Ayers, Del Cummings, Chris McCann and Derrick Mills to increase a point lead he claims to not have an intention on keeping.

Very early in the night, Dylan Cecce won his third feature in a row in his rookie season, once again in dramatic fashion. This time the No. 12 was being chased by Tom Austin Jr. who did everything he could to grab his second feature win but came up just short. Austin should still have the early point lead. Cody Moorehouse, Josh Sharpsteen and Kreg Crooker completed the top-five.
