Black Rock Can Not Survive Wrath of Rain

DUNDEE, NY - A ferocious isolated storm that tormented the speedway grounds for 30 minutes ended up being just enough to force the third cancellation of the season.

With a season-high of 102 cars in the pit area, the clouds cleared and the fans filled the stands in anticipation for a great night of racing. However, the rain that hit the 4/10-mile was severe enough that it could not be run in in a reasonable manner. With that the decision to cancel had to be made.

All was not lost on the night as Mansfield Crane dropped a Dodge Neon from 130 feet high. The impact was enough to bend the car down the center. An on-board camera was attached to the headrest and will be available on the speedway website.

Black Rock will take next week off for Dundee Graduation, with racing resuming on Thursday, July 3 from the Indy Racing League Meet and Greet. The modifieds, late models, street stocks, 4-cylinders and bandits will also be there with the edition of the New York Modified Midgets and an Enduro.
