Rich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY (March 22, 2012)- Many years, a dirt race in New York State in March would not be possible, but this year it is a very real possibility.
On Saturday Afternoon, March 31, the gates at the Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY will swing open to get the 2012 season under way for what will be the first dirt race of the year in New York State. Featured on this afternoon will be four quality classes of races sure to suit every fan.
The showcase race will be the Kenny Moore “Flyin’ Milkman” Crate Sportsman Classic. The second running of this $1,500-to-win, $150-to-start, 60-lap event will be contested at BRS for the first time and arriving with it will be a plethora of bonuses. Included in the incentives are lap sponsorships, many race awards, a 5-lap Dash for Cash, as well as a Youth Crate Sportsman race. At the end of the day, the top three drivers will also have guaranteed starting spots in big late season events at Black Rock, Accord and Fulton Speedways.
The mighty modifieds will make their first of five appearances on the year with a Big Block/Small Block Modified open event. With only a few events each season for the mods at BRS, their appearance will not want to be missed by fans and race teams alike. This race will also be a King of the Catskills qualifier.
For the first time ever, the CRSA 305 Sprint Cars will invade The Rock. For many pilots, it will be their first time around the 4/10-mile oval while others have turned hundreds of laps. This will be their first of two visits in 2012.
The IMCA Modifieds will also get their season underway on the final afternoon of March with their first point race of 2012. With their point battles typically coming down to the wire, this event figures to be hotly-contested.
Once again, this will be a day race, with pit gates swinging open at 9:00 A.M. and hot laps getting underway around 11:00 A.M. The first heat race will take to the race track at 1:00 P.M. General admission is $15 while pit passes for the event are $30. A reminder that all children 16 or under with a paid adult receives free general admission to most events on the 2012 calendar, including this one.
